Jailhouse Rocks in the Head

Several state legislators including Judiciary Chairman Michael Lawlor (D-East Haven) took a tour of Willard Correctional to get a first-hand look at prison overcrowding. That would be terrific, because prison overcrowding naturally leads to choreographed dancing.

Shockingly, Lawlor concurs with Correctional employees unions that the prisons are over crowded and more money needs to be dumped into the system.

"I think what we saw today really confirms our worst suspicions," Lawlor said gravely. Naturally, this will precede the predictably renewed calls for the release of "non-violent" criminals, to make room for the really really bad ones. In the meantime, folks like Lawlor continue to maintain that withholding parole is a bad idea while refusing to take any legislative action on criminal justice reform.

Perhaps Connecticut's prison population is high. Perhaps an inmate can't comfortably make another inmate his bitch in the gang showers without some of his friends awkwardly staring during the intimate moment. I'm searching for some sympathy here.

If you ask me, it's high time we went back to the good old days of exporting our criminals to Virginia. I think it worked pretty good before. That way we can keep ALL the criminals locked up while reducing the inmate-per-exposed toilet ratio here in our local prisons. Think of all the cool dance moves they can bring back to Connecticut...

Wow - I am surprised that Lawlor hasn't suggested a "take a prisoner home with you" program to reduce the inmate population.. and then the family taking the felon home with them can get extra subsidies from the state too! You'd also be able to experience diversity in your own home and the felons family could drop by for a visit with the ex-convict and babysit your kids while you go out to shop or have your nails done (how's that for state sponsored daycare?) that would be a great arrangement - dontcha think?
C'mon - we need more progressive out of the box thinking here. After all, these felons are people too - they have feelings - they have a need for compassion - and their family doesn't think it's fair to send them off to Virginia somewhere.

More money. Bigger budgets. More taxes. More animal rights. Meanwhile the 20 and out with full medical and $5 copay stuff continues while working families are working to age 70 to survive. State union bosses are running these puppets and we are getting handed the bill. Meanwhile out of the other side of their mouth they Dems fight the three strikes laws, allow illegals id cards, give 'em drivers licenses, and talk all day about how throwing money at the problem will work better.
Connecticut is the most expensive state in the land to live in and average working people and small business owners feel the brunt.Smoke and mirrors- 'tis the Dems way... I agree- send the animals back to Virginia - but don't hire more 20 and outers...

Good points Judy & Dave.

I especially like the progressive approach to alternative incarceration and alternative daycare.

I'd sleep so much better at night knowing a convict didn't have to sleep in a tiny little rack, especially if he was downstairs watching the kids...
