Kane and Disabled

Democrats in the 32nd District convened to chose their candidate in the special election to fill the vacant State Senate seat left behind by the resignation of Lou DeLuca. The promptly and efficiently chose the crappiest candidate of two contenders.

Tossing a former US ambassador with an extensive and impressive resume to the curb, Democrats chose Ken Curran, a man who I suspect has played Dungeons & Dragons in his basement as recently as Friday.

Curran (pictured) has a terrific background. He is a blogger. He is chairman of the Bethlehem Democrats, worked on Joe Liberman's campaign, and he managed Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez's campaign. And oh yeah, he served on some local boards and commissions. He will face Watertown Republican Councilman Rob Kane in a January 15th Special Election.

The leftwing blogosphere is distraught... Lieberman and Perez are detested by this group. He may need to recruit some elves and wizards to work on his campaign.

Should be interesting to see how the compressed schedule affects the campaign. I could foresee both candidates making push to get public funding and then focusing solely on mobilizing their respective base. Largely ignoring each other.

Special elections seem to have a way of neutralizing one party's advantage in a district if they are unsuccessful at identifying their voters and getting them to the polls.

I am sure the folks at the Kane campaign will be doing their best. And I'm sure Curran will be playing Dungeons and Dragons.

That's an excellent point. Last year's Democratic Senate Primary is a perfect example of that: a vocal minority was able to mobilize their voters in a low turnout election. Guess we lucked out that the lefty blogosphere isn't too enamored with "Dungeons & Dragons" over there. Still, I wish I knew how to get involved - where to send a check to, who to contact etc...

I'm not sure who to contact for that. Perhaps someone reading can post it here if they know. Otherwise, I'll try to find out.

I was with Rob Kane, Rep. Sean Williams, and Rep. John Piscopo tonight. This campaign has a lot of steam behind it. The 32nd district has been a Republican seat for 100 years. We aren't going to give it up to Curran that's for sure..

Shouldn't his shirt say, "I'd rather be eating?"

Chad, I half expect it to say "I'd rather be casting elfen spells in my mom's basement while eating a bag of Cheese Puffs and drinking a three-liter bottle of Stop & Shop Pineapple Soda.

Be careful Chad, fat dungeons and dragons players are people too.
